Episode 5: The Nerd Strikes Back

An unanticipated hurdle has threatened to bring my campaign crashing down around my ears. Brendan doesn’t work on the weekend. When he’s at home it’s hard to separate him from his desk. If he’s not actually at his computer he’ll still be in the same room, or returning in a matter of moments.

In an attempt to be clever and resourceful, I left him languishing in bed while I got up under the pretense of wanting to have his coffee and toast ready when he arose. In all honesty that was probably my most transparent ruse to date. Worked though.

In my haste I didn’t put as much thought into my acquisition as I perhaps should have. Aware that I had promised not to take a single DVD I decided to remove his entire stack. I then went about making breakfast as promised. Brendan joined me in the living room, gobbled down his toast and set about his day.

It didn’t take long for him to figure out what I had taken. Well, once he knew I’d taken something. With that victory under his belt, as well as his success with the CD cleaner yesterday, he shut himself in my Cave to see if he could repeat it.

I’m a little bit more OCD than he is though. I noticed within moments that the CD on the top of the pile (Smashing Pumpkins) wasn’t the one which was meant to be there (Coldplay). I wrongly assumed that was what he had taken. When I requested its return I learned of my mistake and returned to find out exactly which one he had taken.

It didn’t take long. I quickly noticed that he had put the Coldplay CD into the space for the John Butler Trio. Mr Butler now resided off to the side where Brendan’s Ministry of Sound something-or-another had been. Sessions 2.
I decided to let him keep it.
